AASL Standards Creating Personalized Library Experiences
Reading about the AASL standards this week reminds me of teaching in my 4th-grade classroom. Our district is using personalized learning and learning pathways to ensure that every student is learning. We use many of the inquiry-based learning approaches and project-based learning assignments that were mentioned throughout the issue of Knowledge Quest . This shows me that a good librarian is still a teacher in many ways. Many people don’t think of fostering creativity when thinking about the library, but I love that it is now a standard for school libraries. In the Article “School Librarians Level Up,” Jennifer Freedman and Alice A. Robinson shared many ways that the Western Suffolk Boards of Cooperative Educational Services was implementing the AASL standards within their libraries. I think this is helpful for librarians.
